Mindful Meditation

Mindfulness is awareness. It's a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. When we practice mindfulness we develop a superpower to be more aware of what we are actually doing, how our thoughts and feelings are swaying us, and the effects of our environment/culture. We develop the ability to learn to respond with our best selves instead of reacting from our emotions and fear-based thinking.

Cultivating awareness may seem insignificant but most of the time we are on autopilot racing through our to-do lists, accomplishing our goals and, constantly in doing mode. When we’re lost in thoughts, we lose touch with our body, and we get absorbed in obsessive thoughts about the past or stuck in fretting about the future, this causes stress to build up in our nervous systems. As we know chronic stress leads to anxiety, depression, chronic pain, stress-related illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and emotional reactivity. Basically, it's hard to be your best self under these circumstances.
